NEWS:

New committee for SDC 2019/2020

At SDC’s last AGM we said Goodbye to Janet Young as a committee memeber, we also extend a warm welcome to our new committee member Michael Deaker. We thank Janet for her contributions and assistance throughout the year. We wish her well in her journey in the community and with Enviro Schools.

Collaboration between Dunedin groups.

We are proposing hosting a get together on Saturday Nov 30th for all groups active in Dunedin to come together and celebrate our year, We hope to hold this at Woodhaugh Gardens, Look out in the next newsletter for more details.

Decolonisation is some of the most important work we can do at this time, to collaborate with our indigenous whanau will create a shift we have long needed as a society. Tauiwi mō Matike Mai Aotearoa | Non-Māori for ending colonisation

A forum for building the movement of tauiwi (non-Māori) supporting treaty-based constitutional transformation as envisaged by Matike Mai Aotearoa: nwo.org.nz/resources/report-of-matike-mai-aotearoa-the-independent-working-group-on-constitutional-transformation/

This is for recognising He Wakaputanga, honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, affirming Tino Rangatiratanga and ending colonisation of these lands.

All people are welcome, including tangata whenua, tagata moana, tauiwi of colour, and tauiwi pākehā.

Local Body Elections.

We would like to congratulate our new Mayor Elect Aaron Hawkins. The votes are currently being counted for the final tally of councilors. We welcome the Green Party Candidate into his Mayoral role and look forward to seeing how he will assist with making Dunedin a more sustainable and resilient city.

We want to send a warm welcome to our new councilors, Labour Candidate, Steve Walker and Independent candidate Sophie Barker. We extend our congratulations to returning councillors Green candidate Maria Laifiso, Independent candidate Christine Garey and Independent candidate Jim O’Malley. We look forward to engaging more with these councillors regarding the way forward to making Dunedin a great little city.
